Federal Web Search Upgraded

Great article from today’s Washington Post about recent improvements that have been made to FirstGov, the federal government’s main web portal.

According to the Post:

FirstGov launched a powerful new search engine last month, expanding
the number of accessible documents from 8 million to 40 million,
including more state and local Web sites. Perhaps equally significant
for time-constrained browsers, the new search engine uses improved
algorithms to provide more relevant results.

Interesting to note that the site is being run for the government by Microsoft and Vivisimo, without a mention of Google anywhere to be found.
